This new commission for photographer Ewen Spencer will explore the tribal style of British Youth, with a particular focus on the legacy of Notting Hill Carnival.
The exhibition is part of Fabrica’s Creative Europe project Understanding Territoriality, funded by the EU, and will highlight recent and historical transitions in music, street style and other aspects of youth culture as a way of showing dividing lines and territorial boundaries. It will be produced in partnership with Photoworks and presented within the frame of Brighton Photo Biennial 2016 whose focus for the 2016 edition will be fashion. The exhibition is likely to include several elements: film, photography, sound and archival material, plus a zine and a space for music events, integrated into a larger installation.
We will explore the two educational themes of territoriality in human society and style trends & photography.
